Anabel M. Moseley

Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Anabel M. Moseley, 72, died Monday, May 5, 2003 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. She was born July 8, 1930 in Simla, India, to the Rev. George and Cordia (Thompson) Murdoch, United Presbyterian missionaries.

A 1952 graduate of Cornell, she and her husband, Roger, operated Ramble Rock Farm, a 200-year-old family farm in West Hoosick, N.Y. She served her Lord as teacher, youth worker and other offices in the West Hoosick Baptist Church. Anabel served as president of the Hoosick Falls Central School PTA, and supported Farm Bureau legislative action and many other community programs.

She was very active in regional, state and national American Baptist Churches’ work; and also served the related American Baptist Women’s Ministries as NYS President and later chairwoman of Christian Social Relations of the ABWM nationally.

Anabel was a flower and vegetable gardener from childhood, and had a special interest in “woodsing” - inviting kids to find and create their own terraria and rock garden layouts from plants and animals found on woods walks. She was the “central intelligence agency” for her own family, and kept up a wide correspondence with friends and relatives near and far.

A great happiness in her life was seeing her four children knowing Jesus Christ personally, active in their own churches and raising their families “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” As the daughter of missionary parents, she continued a great interest and active involvement in missions projects and presentations, and joined work trips to Native American churches in Oklahoma, to Nicaragua and Habitat for Humanity in Sumter, S.C.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 50 years, Roger; three daughters, Amy and husband Bruce Baertschi of Springfield, Mass.; Laura and husband Michael Green of Moscow, Idaho; Katrina and husband Cort Neff of Kodiak, Alaska; son Bruce and wife Lisa Moseley of West Hoosick; brother C. Boyd Murdoch (and wife Laura) of Fruitland, Utah; 17 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Corry.

Her memorial service will be Saturday, May 10 at 12 p.m. at West Hoosick Baptist Church, with a reception to follow. Calling hours will precede the service, from 10 a.m. to noon. The family suggests memorials in the form of gifts to West Hoosick Baptist Church Wider Mission Budget or to the HACA Food Closet and can be sent to Mrs. Sherman Herrrington, 170 Wilson Hill Rd, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090.
