Ann Marie Whitaker 1931 - 2008 Bennington Ann Marie Toce Whitaker, 77, widow of Robert J. Whitaker, a resident of Gage Street, Bennington, died at her home on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 surrounded by her loving family following a short illness. Born in Hartford, Conn., March 21, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Asunta Cavallo Toce. She received her education in the Hartford schools. Ann Marie and Bob were married Sept. 25, 1951, in Hartford. Bob died April 20, 1981. Ann Marie was the long-time owner of the popular Ann Marie's Pizza on Gage Street in Bennington. She was best known for her never ending smile and generosity. She semi-retired in 1996 but loved her customers too much to stay out of the business and finally retired when the business was sold in 2006. Ann Marie was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Memphis as she was an avid Elvis fan, and spending time with her family and friends in both Vermont and Connecticut. She leaves three daughters and their spouses, Robin and Kim Guertin, Roxana and Harold Bleau and Dawne Gibbs, all of Bennington; a nephew Dino Toce whom Ann Marie considered a son from East Hartford, Conn., eight loving grandchildren, Anthony Bleau, and his wife, Kimberly of Ashley Falls, Mass., Nicole Bleau Kruger, and her husband, Jonathan of Norwich, Conn., Tara Smith, and her partner, Tyler Caron, Jerad Smith, and his partner, Teresa Luczynski, Michael Gibbs of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Bobby and Amber Gibbs and Kimberly Guertin, all of Bennington. She also leaves six great-grandchildren and nine brothers and sisters, Theresa Brown, Carmela Levere, Rocco Toce, Ronald Toce, Carol Kelly, Rosemarie Hiltgen and Daniel Toce, all of East Hartford, Conn., and Anthony Toce and John Toce, bot h of Newport, Maine. In addition to her husband Ann Marie is also predeceased by a sister and brother, Elaine Plungy and Gerald Toce. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Ann Marie Whitaker's memory may be made to Hospice of Bennington County Inc. through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
