Anna Rupp Obituary
Anna Rupp

1914 - 2015 BENNINGTON Anna Adelina Rupp, 101, slipped into eternity on May 5, 2015 while at home with her family. Born on April 15, 1914 in Nanuet, NY, Anna's first memory was of U.S. soldiers waving from trains as they returned home from World War I in 1918. The eldest of six children born to John George and Emma (Horn) Weissinger, Anna often spoke of memories of a happy childhood spent on the family homestead helping her mom harvest fruits and vegetables, preserving and canning, raising chickens, carrying water from the brook to do laundry on a washboard. A major event was getting electricity in their home when Anna was a teen. At the age of 14, Anna went to work in a silk mill to help out the family. This kind of work was given to children who could work with shuttles on the looms because of their smaller hands. Anna never regretted this hard work and felt it made her a strong, resourceful person later in life. She did regret having to leave school after the 9th grade as she loved learning and continued to do so throughout her life. In 1937 Anna married George Rupp at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Nanuet, NY. They lived in New Jersey and northern NYState before moving to Hoosick Falls, NY 30 years ago. During those years Anna was a homemaker, seamstress, salesperson, and volunteer. She enjoyed crafts and up to her 100th year, she crocheted legendary cotton rugs which were given to all her family members and friends. She also enjoyed singing in church choirs, traveling, playing pinochle, and time with family. Anna is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Ron) Van Orden with whom she resided in Bennington for the past 11 years, and her daughter, Barbara (Bill) Shaw of Akron, PA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Merrie Van Orden, Tim Van Orden, Jill Van Orden (Bret Chenkin) and their children, Maple and Evelyn Van Orden in Bennington; and Colleen (Kevin) Walters, Niger, Africa, Amy (Eric) Hurley, Jacksonville, NC, Daniel (Kenia) Shaw, Kenya, Africa, Marci (Stewart) Stevens, Ogdensburg, NY, and Heidi (Raymond) Rutter, Akron, PA and their children. She is survived by 22 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. In addition she leaves two sisters, Elsie Biehl and Pauline DiPalma, two sisters-in-law, Jean Rupp and Alberta Weissinger and a brother-in-law, Harold Rupp as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George in 2009 after 72 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Albert Weissinger, and Bill Weissinger, a sister, Frieda Weissinger and three half- brothers, John, George and Henry Weissinger FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
