Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Anne D. McCarthy were held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, with a prayer followed by a Mass of Christian death and burial at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington. The Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Edward Howard, pastor, and the Rev. Michael Demasi. Assisting the Mass was Mr. Ivan Matte.

The organist was Louise Gauthier and the soloist was Mildred Pierce.

The church pall was placed on the casket by Mrs. McCarthy’s grandsons, William Abramo Jr., Stephen Abramo, Robert Abramo, William Martin, Michael Martin and John Martin. A wooden cross was then placed on the casket by Mrs. McCarthy’s daughters, Joanne Abramo and Ellen Martin. Words of remembrance were offered by Father Demasi. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Joanne Abramo and Ellen Martin.

Following the Mass, the burial took place in the family lot in St. John’s Cemetery with Father Howard and Father Demasi offering the committal prayers. Pallbearers for the service were six grandsons, William Abramo, Stephen Abramo, Robert Abramo, William Martin, Michael Martin and John Martin. An honor guard representing the Saint John the Baptist Sodality included Jill Levin, Theresa Demasi, Therese Densmore, Peg Crossman, Madeline Gratton and Joyce Scarey.

The vigil service took place on Friday afternoon, with Father Howard and Father Demasi offering the prayers.

Mrs. Anne D. McCarthy, widow of Dennis L. McCarthy, a former resident of McCarthy Acres in North Bennington, died on Monday Sept. 13, 2004, in Holtsville, N.Y.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington.
