JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. -- Anne D. Turner, 87, a resident of Abel Drive in Johnstown, N.Y., died on Thursday morning, March 3, 2005, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Greenoch, Scotland on March 19, 1917, and was the daughter of the late Archibald J. and Annie (Dickie) McAlister. She received her education in Scotland. She married Mr. James A. Turner on Dec. 31, 1938, in Scotland. Mr. Turner predeceased her. The Turner’s relocated to Bennington, Vt. in 1951 from Scotland. Mr. and Mrs. Turner have also resided in Tarrytown. Mrs. Turner had moved to Johnstown several years ago to be closer to her family. She had been employed in various jobs over the years, but her last employment was as a retail clerk with Fay’s Drug Store in Johnstown.

She was a very active member of the former Lioness Club in Johnstown. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Turner is survived by one son, Duncan Turner of Bennington and Egdewater, Fla., and one daughter, Sandra Howard of Johnstown. She has one sister, Nettie Hastie of Waterlooville, England, and five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held privately. There are no calling hours scheduled.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the Johnstown Public Library or the charity of one’s choice through the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington.
