Anne T. Knapp

1923 - 2016 Anne T. Knapp 92, a resident of Brookdale at Fillmore Pond died Monday June 6, 2016 at her residence following a brief illness. She was born in Montclair, New Jersey November 3, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Charles E. Thompson and Caroline (Fenn) Thompson. Anne received her education at the Kimberly School in Montclair and later graduated from Smith college in North Hampton, MA. in 1945. She married Ogden (Spike) Knapp on August 24, 1946 in Montclair, New Jersey. She was pre-deceased by her daughter Caroline E. Knapp May 7, 2002 and Ogden Knapp May 8, 2007. From 1945 to 1946 Anne was employed by Eastern Airlines. From 1961 to 1969 Anne worked with her husband at the radio station he purchased, Radio KLAD in Klamath Falls, Oregon retiring in 1970 when they moved to Shaftsbury, Vt. Anne spent much of her time volunteering and contributing to the community. She volunteered at the United Hospital in Port Chester, New York and was president of the 17th Twigs in Rye, New York. She volunteered at the Presbyterian Inner Community Hospital and served as president of the Women's Guild in Klamath Falls, Oregon. In 1974 Anne organized the Corridor Art Gallery, and started the Corridor Art Gallery. She served as Chairperson for the Corridor Art Gallery Committee from its inception until September 2004, for a total of 30 years. In 1978 Anne was elected to the Putnam Memorial Hospital Board , and served on the board until 1983. From 1984 until 1992 she served on the Putnam Memorial Health Corporation Board. Anne served on the Mount Anthony Housing Corporation Board from 1984 to 1992, and from 1995 to 1997, serving as Vice Chairperson in 1986 and Chairperson from 1987 to 1989. Anne served on the Executive Board of the Putnam Auxiliary starting in 1974, and also served a term as President of the Putnam Auxiliary. Anne has also been Chairperson of the Gift Shop Committee. Anne also served as president and treasurer of The Friends of the Bennington Free Library. Served as Special Gifts Chairman at Smith College in 1975 and Reunion Chairman in 1980. Anne was an avid skier in her earlier years. She enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and especially loved her horses, dogs, cats, and birds. Survivors include her son Peter O. Knapp and his wife Leslie of Shaftsbury, Vt. Two daughters, Tracy Knapp of Rutland, Vt. and Merrill Knapp of Menlo Park, Ca. A sister Mrs. John C. Lathrop of Nantucket, MA. along with several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Service arrangements and will be announced in a future edition of the paper. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
