Obituary Condolences

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Anne L. Huttlinger was born to immortal life Jan. 19, 2004 at the Lake Placid residence that had been her home for 51 years. Her family was with her at the time of her death, which resulted from advanced Parkinson’s disease and complications from a recent stroke. Mrs. Huttlinger was born in Waterbury, Vt. and was raised in the White River Junction, Vt. area.

She was the daughter of Agnes McGrath Lewis and Henry Lewis. She developed a love of music during her childhood days, and she studied voice at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. After college, she went to work for Northeast Airlines at Logan Airport in Boston.

During the World War II years, the airline assigned her to positions in Presque Isle, Maine and Moncton, New Brunswick, which were important air transport stations for the European war effort. Her experiences at Northeast Airlines were the source of many memorable stories that she recounted all during her life. After the war, she relocated to Lake Placid, where she worked in the reservations department at the Lake Placid Club. At Lake Placid, she met John B. (Jerry) Huttlinger, and they were married at St. Agnes Church on Oct. 7, 1950. Father Michael Kelley performed the ceremony.

The Huttlingers operated a tourist cottage business at the Saranac Avenue property that they purchased in 1953. Mrs. Huttlinger later became a partner with her husband in the Adirondack Audit Company in Saranac Lake, which they acquired in 1967. She remained active in the business until her recent illness. Her keen interest in the business and her fondness for the company’s clients made this a rewarding experience for her and provided another source of memorable stories that she loved to recall.

Mrs. Huttlinger served on the St. Agnes Church Pastoral Council, the St. Agnes School Parent-Teacher’s Council and she was a member of the St. Agnes Rosary Alter Society. For many years she was the organist and vocalist for funerals and weddings at St. Agnes Church. She was a frequent volunteer at the Lake Placid Music Festival and served as treasurer of the organization. This led to her appointment as the first treasurer of the Lake Placid Center for the Arts in 1972, a position she held for several years.

In addition to her husband of 53 years, Mrs. Huttlinger is survived by two sons, John B. Huttlinger Jr. of Lake Placid and James M. Huttlinger of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Retta Huttlinger of Winooski, Vt. and Tierney Beck of Bennington, Vt; she is also survived by three grandchildren, Katie and Lauren Beck of Bennington and John B. Huttlinger III of Lake Placid.

Calling hours will be held at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Thursday, Jan. 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, Jan. 23, and will be celebrated by St. Agnes Church pastor, the Rev. J. Michael Gaffney, and concelebrated by the Rev. Philip T. Allen of Holy Name Church in Ausable Forks. The family suggests friends wishing to remember Anne make donations in her memory to High Peaks Hospice, P.O. Box 840, Saranac Lake, NY 12983 or Carmelite Monastery, 89 Hiddenbrook Drive, Beacon, NY 12508.
