HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Anne M. Yankus, 77, died Friday, April 16, 2004 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt. She resided on Wall Street in Hoosick Falls.

She was born June 1, 1926 in Hoosick Falls, daughter of the late Ignace and Mary (Grinces) Yankus. Anne graduated from St. Mary’s Academy as the salutatorian of her class and from The College of St. Rose in 1950. She then graduated from St. John’s University with her master’s degree in nursing education. She then served as the chief nurse at the following Veterans Hospitals: in Albany, White River Junction, Vt., Omaha, Neb., Lincoln, Neb., Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and back at Albany, where she retired in 1982.

Anne was a member of the National League for Nursing and a very devout communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court 30 at the church.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mary Yankus, of Hoosick Falls; nieces, Leah Nowak-Chapman and Mary Beth Anoe; nephews, Edward Yankus Jr., Stephen Anoe and Matthew Anoe. She is predeceased by a sister, Frances Nowak, and a brother, Edward Yankus.

Funeral services will be Monday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., in Hoosick Falls and 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church where a mass of Christian burial will be offered. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Mary’s Academy of the Immaculate Conception Church through the funeral home.
