BENNINGTON -- Anthony F. “Tony” Ferris, 66, a resident of South Street died Friday afternoon, March 5, 2004 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

Mr. Ferris was born in Newark, N.J. on Feb. 16,1938. He was the son of Charles and Eleanor (Conneelly) Ferris. He grew up in Newark where he graduated from Barringer High School. He served with the U.S. Army from October of 1956 until being honorably discharged in October of 1958; he continued as a reservist until 1962.

He had worked for Sterling Extruder in Piscataway, N.J. from 1959 until 1984, retiring as shop manager. He relocated to Bennington in the late 1980s where he became a member of the American Legion Post 13. In earlier years he had enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He leaves his two sons Robert A. Ferris of Houston, Texas and Thomas A. Ferris of Guilford; a daughter, Catherine M. Conroy, of Elizabeth, N.J.; and seven grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Monday, March 8 from 4-6 p.m., military funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. by members of American Legion Post 13.

Memorial gifts may be made in memory of Mr. Ferris to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O. Box 957, Bennington, VT 05201.

All members of American legion Post 13 are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday evening for 6 p.m. services.
