HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Anthony J. Kalinowski Jr., 88, died Sunday, July 23, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. He resided on Scott Street in Hoosick Falls. He married Doris Langlois of Bennington on Nov. 11, 1954. Doris died on April 9, 1991.

Anthony was born on July 14, 1918, in Erie, Pa., a son of the late Anthony and Tillie (Pytko) Kalinowski Sr. He attended schools in Hoosick Falls and served in the United States Army during World War II. While serving in the Army, he received the following decorations: Purple Heart, American Service Medal, Eame Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Anthony worked at the Specialty Company in Hoosick Falls for almost 50 years until retiring. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and walking, especially with his dog. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the V.F.W., American Legion Post No. 40, and the Elks Lodge No. 178, all in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors include his sister, Patricia Smith of Hoosick Falls; two brothers, Robert Kalinowski of Bennington and Charles Kalinowski of Massapequa, N.Y.; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Bakaitis and Irene Dudek, and two brothers, Edward and Theodore Kalinowski.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery will follow the service.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. and in the evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Red Cross, Second Chance Animal Shelter or the charity of your choice through the funeral home.
