Obituary Condolences

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Anthony J. Urbon, 83, died Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. He resided on Kokley Avenue in Hoosick Falls and was the husband of the late Dorothy (Schneider) Urbon.

He was born on May 17, 1923, in Hoosick Falls, son of the late Anthony and Susannah (Yankus) Urbon. He attended schools in Hoosick Falls. He was a veteran of the Army, serving during World War II. While serving in the Army, he was a Golden Gloves boxing champion in the light heavyweight division.

Anthony worked at the former Pownal Tanning Co. in Pownal, Vt., for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. He was a member of the Pioneer Fish and Game Club, where he was a past president. He was also a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony Urbon Jr. and his wife, Karen, and Stanley Urbon and his wife, Susan; grandchildren Sam, Ross, Mike and Daniel Urbon, all of Hoosick Falls. Anthony is predeceased by a sister, Sophie Butkus, and three brothers, Stanley Urbon, Albert Butkus and John Butkus.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 42 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Rensselaer County Community Hospice or the Meals on Wheels Program.
