Obituary Condolences

SALEM, N.Y. -- Salem-Antone (Tony) Santos, 90, of Salem, died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington with his family at his side.

He was born in New Bedford, Mass., the son of the late Antonio and Evangelina Souza Santos. Tony served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a firefighter for the city of New Bedford, Mass., fire department working at station No. 6 before retiring.

Tony was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in Salem and he enjoyed watching sports, playing bingo, cards and traveling to the casinos. His family was important to him, he was a good husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rose Marie Whaley Santos of Salem; his children, A. Michael Santos and his wife Ann Marie of Crown Point, N.Y., Rosemary Boyd and her husband Chester of Salem and Christine M. Tomlinson of Brunswick; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Santos of New Bedford; and his grandchildren, Greg and Carrie Boyd and Paul, Donald and Amie Tomlinson; three step-grandchildren, Todd Malone, June Leonard and Dawn Belden; and one niece and four nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, John, Albert and Manuel Santos; and two sister-in-laws, Mary Santos and Lillian Santos.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. from the McClellan Funeral Service, 19 East Broadway, Salem and at 10 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, North Main Street, Salem where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Liam Condon, pastor.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Interment will take place at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Argyle.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Tony may be made to the Salem Fire Department, Salem, NY 12865 or the building fund at Holy Cross Church, North Main Street, Salem, NY 12865.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Vermont Veterans Home, especially the east wing for the wonderful care given to Tony and his family.
