Antonio Mazzola Sr. 1936 - 2009 SHAFTSBURY Antonio S. "Tony" Mazzola Sr., 72, a resident of Route 7A died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, following a long illness. Born in Piertafitta, Frosinone, Italy, on Sept. 22, 1936, son of Donato and Angelina Vitti Mazzola, Tony received his education in Italy before coming to the United States in 1954, when he settled in New Canaan, Conn. In earlier years, Tony was employed as an auto mechanic at a dealership in New Canaan. In 1971, together with his partner, Richard Karl, he founded a Saab dealership called, Saab of New Canaan, which he operated until 1981. In 1982, Tony and Assunta moved to Shaftsbury where they founded Shaftsbury Saab Auto Repair on Route 7A. Tony was later joined in the business by his two sons, who have operated the business since Tony's illness. Tony was a member of K of C Council 307 in Bennington. He enjoyed caring for his sheep and chickens and especially time spent with his grandchildren. Tony married the former Assunta DiFulvio at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan on July 12, 1958. Besides his wife, Assunta Mazzola, he leaves his children and their spouses, Mary and John Cicirello of Shaftsbury, Antonio S. "Tony" Jr. and Mary Patricia Mazzola of Bennington, and Daniel and Michelle Mazzola of Shaftsbury and eight grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at 9:15 a.m. from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME with a prayer from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 10 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The wake service will be offered Friday afternoon. Entombment will take place at the Mazzola family mausoleum at Center Shaftsbury Cemetery. Should friends desire, contributions in memory of Antonio S. Mazzola Sr. may be made to the Activities Fund at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
