NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Mrs. Arlene Eunice (Moran) Blanchard, 86, of Hall Street, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004 at the North Adams Regional Hospital, where she was admitted on Dec. 31, 2003.

She was born in North Adams on March 28, 1917, daughter of the late Jesse Moran and Eva (Tondreau) Moran. She was educated in North Adams schools, including Drury High School in North Adams. In her younger years, she was employed with the former Florini’s Italian Gardens Restaurant on Holden Street and the former Capitol Restaurant on Main Street, both in North Adams. Primarily she was a devoted homemaker for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in North Adams. Her husband was Robert Linwood Blanchard Sr., whom she married on March 2, 1934 in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. He died in North Adams on May 8, 2000.

Mrs. Blanchard is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Patricia Girard, Mrs. Mary DeMarsico and Mrs. Nancy Walter, of North Adams; Mrs. Lyn Tanguay of Adams; Mrs. Judith Southgate of Pownal, Vt.; Mrs. Robert Callebaut of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sons, Robert L. Blanchard Jr., Mark D. Blanchard and Lance A. Blanchard of North Adams; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Norma Starr of North Adams; a close companion, William B. Whitney; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Memorial services for Mrs. Arlene Blanchard will take place Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Summer Street, North Adams, with the Rev. Edward King, rector, officiating. Burial will take place in Southview Cemetery, North Adams, in the spring. There are no calling hours. The omission of flowers is requested. Any donations in her memory are suggested for the North Adams Ambulance Service, the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society through the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams MA 01247, which is in charge of the arrangements.
