Arlene S. Grant 1908-200899 years, 10 months WILLIIAMSTOWN Arlene S. Grant, formerly of White Oaks Rd, and the Spruces in Williamstown, died Wednesday, April 29, 2008 at Auburn Memorial Hospital, in Auburn N.Y. She had resided with her son, Richard in Cato, N.Y. for the past few years. Born Helen Arlene Stevens in Pennellville, N.Y. to Walter A. Stevens and Garnet Peckham Stevens on July 3, 1908, she attended a one room school in Pennellville through 8th grade, then graduated from Phoenix, N.Y. High School in 1925. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Syracuse University in 1929, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She taught school in Indian Lake N.Y. and worked summers at the Silver Bay Hotel in Lake George, N.Y. until her marriage to Francis V. Grant June 29, 1935. Her husband, Francis, former superintendent of schools in Williamstown, died in 1977. Arlene was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Renaissance Club of Williamstown, The Evening Club of the First Congregational Church, The Williamstown Garden Club, and the Williams College Faculty Club. She was a longtime, faithful volunteer at the Women's Exchange in Williamstown. She was an avid bridge player and was well known at several bridge games in Williamstown. She has been a dependable member of the White Oaks Congregational Church for the past 40 years. Arlene is survived by a step daughter, Jane Grant Lenahan of Florham Park, N.J.; two sons, Owen F. Grant, and his wife Debbie of Pownal, Vt. and Richard S. Grant and his wife Kathy of Cato, N.Y.; six grandchildren; Grant F. Lenahan, of Florham Park, N.J.; Kathleen G. MacAlpine of Rye Beach N.H., Scott D. Grant of Savoy, Dr. Jeffrey S. Grant of Aztec, N.M., Kimberly A. Grant of Telluride, Colo., and Nicole G. Wilson of Pownal, Vt. She leaves seven great-grandchildren as well. FUNERAL NOTICE: There are no calling hours. A committal service will be held at Eastlawn Cemetary in Williamstown at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Francis V. Grant Memorial Scholarship Award Fund, through Mt. Greylock Regional High School, 1781 Cold Spring Rd, Williamstown, MA 01267.
