BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Arlene Shirley Roya were held from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Saturday, March 18, 2006, where the Mass of resurrection was offered by the Rev. Julien LaFlamme. Assisting on the altar was Yvon Matte.

The organist was Louise Gauthier and the soloist was Monica Murray. Hymns offered during the Mass were “Amazing Grace,” “Wind Beneath My Wings,” “In the Garden” and “On Eagles Wings.”

Arlene’s sister, Paula Roy, was the urn bearer. She also offered readings from both the Old and New Testaments. The offertory gifts were presented by Arlene’s sisters, Susan Durfee and Michelle Peabody, and two granddaughters, Andrea Roya and Jessica McLenithan. Arlene’s daughter-in-law, Tamara Roya, offered two poems in remembrance of Arlene, “When I Must Leave You” and “Indian Prayer.”

After the Mass, a reception was held at St. John’s parish hall. A prayer service at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral Mass.

Arlene Shirley Roya, 55, a resident of Hickory Hill Road in Shaftsbury, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at her residence. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
