Armand Rene Rousseau, 89, a resident of Hoosick Falls, died peacefully at his residence on Saturday, December 23, 2017 following a long illness.

He was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada on March 28, 1928. He was the third of five children of the late Edouard and Kilda (Lamontague) Rousseau. He came to the United States with dual citizenship in 1948 at the age of 21 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in December of that year. He served during the Korean War era assigned to the Atomic Energy Commission, witnessing a total of 12 atomic bomb tests as well as the first hydrogen bomb test.

Armand was a journeyman machinist working for a number of years at Noble & Wood Corp. in Hoosick Falls and then at Bendix Corp in Green Island NY from which he retired in 1990. He had a lifelong love of music and as a younger man in the early 1960s, he was a member of the "Hoosick Hot Spots", a "hillbilly" band that was invited twice to play at the NY Worlds Fair, once in 1964 and again in 1965.

Armand was involved in a number of civic activities over the years. He volunteered with Phil Leonard in making ice at the then new Reynolds/Gilchrist Skating Rink in the early 1970s, continuing for well over 20 years. He helped usher in many improvements including installation of a permanent surface and new boards culminating in the purchase of a Zamboni ice resurfacing machine. He was one of the longest serving members of the Weir-Reynolds Foundation Board and in later years volunteered at the HACA Food Closet.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Margaret (Sargood), his sons Mark (Kim) and Brian (Mariea), 5 grandchildren (Adrienne, Luc, Matthew, Marc and Nathan), 11 great grandchildren, a brother Fernand (late Rachel) and sister No lla (late Dollard Roy), both of Sherbrooke, Quebec as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by a son Claude as well as his sister Rollande (late Lionel Boulay) and brother Guy (Adrienne).
