Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mr. Arnold “Arnie” Gordon, 76, passed away on June 13, 2003 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation following a courageous battle with cancer.

Arnold was born in Boston, Nov. 27, 1926. He was the son of the late Edward and Leah (Rohtstein) Gordon. He graduated from Brighton High School and throughout his life ventured into varied fields of employment. As a young adult, in Boston, he played piano professionally.

He also waited tables in his uncle’s restaurant and in the Catskill Mountains in the summers. After moving to Miami and working for some of the well known hotels in Miami Beach, he opened his own restaurant near Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. Striving for more, he became a real estate agent and broker. He opened his own real estate agency in Miami, Fla.

After Hurricane Andrew devastated his family in 1992, the family moved to Bennington. At the age of 70, Arnie passed his Vermont real estate exam, but soon after became ill. Arnie was a kind and gentle man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Arnold was the loving and cherished husband of Maxine Gordon and the devoted father of Ron Gordon both of Bennington. He is survived by one sister, Beryl Waronker of Fernandino Beach, Fla., and cousins.

A graveside service will be held Monday, June 16, 2003 at 11 a.m. with Rabbi Howard Cohen, of Beth El Congregation, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in memory of Arnold Gordon may be made to the Vermont Chapter of the American Cancer Society through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Keith Michl of the Dorset Village Health Center, and the staff at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, for their dedicated care and support.
