Arthur Barschdorf Obituary

Arthur C. Barschdorf of Duluth, MN, formerly of Bennington passed away on February 16th at the age of 100.

He was born in Adams, MA on July 31st, 1916, the son of Fred and Violet (Sorell) Barschdorf. Art grew up in Bennington.

Art was Editor of newspapers during his five years of service in World War II. In 1940 while serving with the National Guard at Camp Blanding Florida, he wrote a column, "Happy Blandings" for the Banner, covering news of hometown soldiers.

In 1952, Art was awarded a Nieman Fellowship to Harvard for Journalism. He then went to work for the Minnesota Power and Light Co. as Director of Public Information retiring in 1981.

Other than his immediate family in Minnesota, Art is survived by a sister, Ethel Pratt of Bennington and two brothers, Jim of Superior, WI and Bill of Pittsfield, MA. Art was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis and two brothers, Alfred "Babe" Barschdorf and Jack Barschdorf, and two sisters, Jane Marino and Irene Joly.

SERVICES: A Celebration of Life Service will take place on June 11th at Trinity Episcopal Church in Hermantown, MN.
