Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Arthur P. Guerard, 71, a resident of North Bennington Road, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at his residence following a long illness.

Born in Bennington June 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Harriet (Hall) Guerard. He received his education in the Bennington schools. Art served three years in the U.S. Army, all in Germany, and 17 in the U.S. Navy, retiring with the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer in 1974. An operations specialist, he served during the Korean conflict, the Cuban missile crisis and three tours of Vietnam. He also served on the USS Bennington.

Following his retirement from the Navy, Art was employed at Thomson Manufacturing Co. for several years.

He married the former Joyce Harwood July 4, 1958 in Bennington.

Art was a member of Elks Lodge 567, American Legion Post 13 and a lifemember of VFW Post 1332, all of Bennington. He enjoyed reading, playing darts and computer games.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Guerard of Bennington; two daughters, Lisa Sloan of Bennington and Terri Bourque and her husband James of Somerville, Mass.; two sons, Phillip Guerard of Johnstown, Ohio and David Guerard and his wife Lisa of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Blanche Harwood of Bennington; two brothers, Douglas Guerard of Mulberry, Fla. and Bernard Guerard of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; two sisters, Jeannette and Madeline of Tennessee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Art’s request, there will be no services held.
