Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Mrs. Aurore C. Lawton were held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church Thursday, April 28, 2004 where the liturgy of Christian death and burial was offered by the Rev. Robert Lozinski, c.s.c., pastor.

Organist was Donald McMahon and soloist was Monica Murray. Hymns offered during the funeral mass were “How Great Thou Art,” “On Eagles’ Wings” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee.” The pall that covered Mrs. Lawton’s casket during the funeral mass was placed by her children and their spouses, James and Pamela Lawton, Karen Lawton Christian and Robert Christian, and Dean and Connie Lawton. A cross was placed on the casket by a granddaughter, Jobeth Lawton. The scriptural readings were offered by family friends Ray Crosier and Jean Bohmer. The offertory gifts were presented by James, Karen and Dean Lawton. A poem, written to Mrs. Lawton by her late husband many years ago, was read during the mass. Acolytes were Gerald Amadon, Leonard Anzivino, Val Clifford and John Reed.

Bearers were a son-in-law, Robert Christian, and four grandsons, Michael Christian, Michael Marcoux, Jason Lawton and Bradley Christian along with Jeff Gauthier. Honorary bearers from the St. Anne’s Society were Theresa Aglieri, Doris Boutin, Theresa Boutin, Alda Cole, Edith LeRay and Marie Roy.

A prayer service at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral mass.

Wednesday evening members of the St. Annes Society recited the rosary at the funeral home in Mrs. Lawton’s memory. In attendance at the funeral services were many current and former employees of Banknorth and the former First Vermont Bank and Trust Company where Mrs. Lawton was employed for 30 years prior to her retirement.

Burial took place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with Fr. Lozinski offering the committal prayers. A reception at the Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales parish center followed the funeral mass.

Mrs. Lawton, widow of Robert G. Lawton, a resident of Morgan Street, Bennington, and formerly of Bellows Falls, and a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, died suddenly April 25, 2004 at the Albany, N.Y. Medical Center. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
