Obituary Condolences

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Austin Hicks Fox Sr., 87, of Knoxville and formerly of Manchester, Vt., died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Parkwest Medical Center.

He was a member of First Congregational Church in Manchester and attended Gallaher Memorial Baptist Church in Knoxville. A graduate of Farragut High School and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Austin was a U.S. Air Force hump pilot veteran of World War II as a lieutenant colonel and a member of the Hump Pilots Association.

He was a member of the Holston Hills Country Club and the Oriental Lodge No. 453 F&AM and was retired from American Cyamid Company with more than 25 years of service before moving to Manchester to open an inn with his dear wife, Elizabeth (Lib) Fox, who preceded him in death in 1983. Austin retired as the innkeeper after 18 years of service.

Survivors include a son, Skip Fox; daughter, Tina Beth Fox Cunningham; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Ernest Fox; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service followed at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Gallaher Memorial Baptist Church, with interment at Edgewood Cemetery. Full military honors were presented by the Volunteer State Veteran’s Honor Guard.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 588, Manchester, VT 05254.
