B. Clayton Daigneault 1920 - 2009 BENNINGTON B. Clayton "Clayt" Daigneault, 89, a former longtime resident of Eastview Drive, Bennington, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at the Vermont Veterans Home following a long illness. Born in Bennington, Jan. 15, 1920, son of Francis and Rosalene Desaultes Daigneault. He received his education in Bennington and was a graduate of the former Bennington High School. Clayt was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Seabees from 1943 until 1945. Clayt married the former Margaret A. O'Toole on Oct. 29, 1938, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Mrs. Daigneault died Feb. 6, 2002. In earlier years Clayt was employed at the Union Fern Company, Paradise Restaurant and Prudential Insurance Company. He later owned and operated the American Coffee Shop in Bennington and was also employed at the former Federal Building on South Street. A very active member of the community for many years, Clayt served on both the Board of Selectman for the Town of Bennington and as a member of the Putnam Hose Company, Bennington Fire Department. He especially enjoyed barbershop singing and belonged to both the Saratoga Racing City Chorus and SPEBSQSA. Other interests included golfing and following his favorite teams, the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy. He leaves five sons and their spouses, Gary and Kaye Daigneault of Bennington, Dennis Daigneault of Pittsfield, Mass., and Bonita Springs, Fla., James and Andrea Daigneault of Seebring, Fla., Mark and Marci Daigneault of Phoenix, Ariz., and Alan and Dianna Daigneault of Stillwell, Kan.; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, Riley Elizabeth; two brothers, Martin Daigneault of Holderness, N.H., and Llewelyn Daigneault of Palm Beach Garden, Fla.; nieces, nephews and cousins. Clayt was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Kotarski Daigneault. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, from Four Chaplains All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home at 10 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered by the Rev. Michael Demasi, chaplain. Friends may call at the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
