Obituary Condolences

SOUTH BURLINGTON -- After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Barbara Brunelle passed away on July 27, 2004, at home surrounded by her loved ones. Her strength, humility, compassion, spirit and infectious humor will continue to be an inspiration to all who knew her. Barb’s passion for life was boundless.

She enjoyed trips to the ocean, camping, gardening, concerts, collecting flamingoes, many adventures with niece and faithful friend Kathy Snow, and especially spending time with friends and family.

Barb was born in Bennington on Nov. 21, 1952. After attending Burlington College, she worked in retail and managed a clothing store in Burlington, before joining her husband as co-owner of Golden Rings & Silver Things. Barb’s true calling was helping others and she spent eight years working with children with special needs at Chamberlain School in South Burlington. During this period she enjoyed many rewarding years as a Girl Scout leader. In 1996, she joined the VNA, bringing her special gifts to the elderly and disabled. She later spent an enjoyable year working at Green Mountain Messenger, and then returned to the VNA, welcoming new challenges at Anderson House until she became unable to, nearly a year ago.

Barb is survived by her loving husband Richard; her daughters Laurie and Sarah; grandson Davin; a stepson, Patrick; her mother Dorothy (Dot) Powers; sisters Betty Myers, Dee Dee Allen and Laurie Powers; brothers Fred and John Powers; several loving in-laws; many cousins, nephews and nieces, especially Kathy, Robby, Meghan and Brad; longtime friends Jan, Janet, Emily, Heidi, Sonny and so many good friends of recent years. Barb was predeceased by her brother, Bill.

Special thanks to wonderful caregivers, Heidi, Lisa, Julia and especially Carol Green. Also special thanks to Patrick Fitzsimmons, whose music and kindness were a great comfort throughout Barb’s illness. Barb has generously donated her body to the UVM College of Medicine.

Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester VT 05446.

All friends are welcome to a celebration of Barb’s life on Aug. 15 at Franny O’s on Queen City Park Road at noon.
