1924 - 2014 SHAFTSBURY, VT. Barbara G. Charron, 89, a resident of Holy Smoke Road, Shaftsbury, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, Nov. 18, 2014 at her residence following a brief illness. Born in Shaftsbury on Dec. 29, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Arlie and Bessie (Beagle) Greene. Barbara received her education in the Shaftsbury and North Bennington schools. During World War II Barb worked as a welder in the Portsmouth, N.H. Naval ship yard. After returning to Bennington she spent the next 36 years as an employee of Union Carbide/Energizer until the time of her retirement. An avid outdoors person for her entire life, Barb shot her first deer at the age of 12 and traveled to Alaska many times where she shot several moose, bear and deer. She was also an expert at fly fishing and always tied her own flies. For the past 25 years Barb's favorite pastime had been feeding and watching foxes from her home in Shaftsbury. Survivors include her son, Bernie Moffitt Sr. of Wasilla, Alaska; five grandsons, Mark & Mike Elwell and Bernie Moffitt Jr., Daniel and Andrew Moffitt; six brothers and sisters, Betty Stratton of Bennington, Arlie F. "Skip" Greene of Bennington, Lowell Greene of North Bennington, Elmer "Dickie" Greene of Bennington, Gale Greene of Glastenbury and Clyde "Sonny" Young Jr. of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Barb was predeceased by eight sisters and brothers, Lina Armstrong, Eleanor Welch, Howard Maxwell, Cecil, Donald, Raymond, Warren and Johnny Greene. At Barb's request there will be no services held. Burial will take place in the family lot at Maple Hill Cemetery in Shaftsbury.
