Obituary Condolences

BUSKIRK, N.Y. -- Barbara Donlin Morton, who inspired so many during her courageous 14-year battle with cancer, died at her home on Feb. 12, 2006. She was 63.

Born in New York City in 1942, she moved with her mother, Edna Fairs Donlin, to North Adams, Mass. There she graduated from Drury High School and went on to earn her B.S. in education at North Adams State College in 1964. That same year Barbara married Robert Morton, just three years after Robert discovered that there is such a thing as love at first sight. They then moved to Connecticut, where Barbara became a caseworker for the Department of Social Services. In 1967 the couple became a family when their baby boy, Shawn Patrick, was born just before their move to Bennington, Vt. Before their final move to Cambridge, her daughter, Sarah Elisabeth, joined the family. In both Bennington and Cambridge, Barbara worked in various positions at what is now Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and Mary McClellan Hospital.

Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She delighted in tending to her beautiful backyard gardens, visiting with her family, traveling and her weekly visits with Anonymoose. Her husband Robert, son Shawn, daughter Sarah Klebes, brother Robert Donlin, aunt and uncle Helen and George Fairs survive her.

Barbara fought cancer with heroic grace, selflessness and dignity. The family asks that a donation be made to Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center with a memo of “Patient Resource Fund.” Checks may be mailed to Southwestern Vermont Cancer Center, 140 Hospital Drive, Suite 116, Bennington, VT 05201. The family would like to say thank you to all that have offered love and support throughout the years.

Arrangements are private under the direction of Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, Cambridge.
