Barbara Ann Gioia

1932 - 2014 BENNINGTON Barbara Ann Gioia (nee Rudd), 81, a native of Bennington, daughter of Howard and Elizabeth Rudd, and a longtime resident of Cresskill, N.J., died March 23, 2014, of complications related to multiple sclerosis. Her professional career in nursing, which began at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, led to a 40 year span of employment at Englewood Hospital, with much of that time spent as a dedicated oncology nurse. She shared with her fellow nurses a high degree of compassion, professionalism and humor which, no doubt, greatly impacted those in her care. In her private life, she was an avid reader of fiction, and a great lover of Long Beach Island and shrimp cocktails. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard L. Gioia. She is survived by her sister, Judith Rudd of Bennington, and is a beloved aunt to Lisa Connors (nee Ripley), TJ Ripley, and Michelle Rudd. Barbara leaves behind her four children, Deborah, Richard Jr. and wife, Barbara, Robert and wife, Karen, Philip and wife, Michele. Her joy as a grandmother to Mallory, Kelsey, Zachary, Nina, Mitchell, Trevor, Meredith, Kathryn and Kristen was unsurpassed. FUNERAL NOTICE: A last viewing for Barbara will be held at Barrett Funeral Home - 148 Dean Dr., Tenafly, N.J., on Thursday, March 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be held in the chapel at Brookside Cemetery, 425 Engle St, Englewood at 12:30PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Barbara's name be made to the National MS Society, New Jersey Metro Chapter, 1 Kalisa Way, Suite 205, Paramus, NJ 07652 or on-line: www.nationalmssociety.org/Chapters/NJM/Donate.
