HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Barbara Goldstein, 57, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt. She lived on Hoosick Street in Hoosick Falls.

Barbara was born on June 11, 1947 in Brooklyn, daughter of John and Veronica (Michalski) Mathys. She was educated at schools in New York and attended Catholic churches there. Barbara worked as a secretary for the Office of Fire Prevention and Control of New York state in Albany. Barbara liked to crochet, garden and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Tara Goldstein of Hoosick Falls; two sons, Scott Goldstein and his wife Carrie of Hoosick Falls and Alex Goldstein of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla; a sister, Dolores Dufour and her husband Robert of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, John Mathys and his wife Carolyn of Bachorz, Long Island and Joseph Mathys and his wife Marguerite of Montauk, Long Island; and six grandchildren, Gregory Goldstein, Danielle Goldstein, Anthony Goldstein, Max Goldstein, Brigitte Goldstein and Kalie Goldstein. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, Edward Michalski.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, April 16, at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., Hoosick Falls, on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home. This fund is used to help cancer patients in the town of Hoosick area with whatever needs they may have.
