Beatrice V. Forrest 1917-2012 BENNINGTON Mrs. Beatrice V. Forrest, age 95, widow of Edward S. Forrest, a former resident of North Branch Street in Bennington, died on Friday , May 18, 2012 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her children and family, following a long illness. She was born in Hartford, Conn., April 10, 1917, and was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Beatrice (Goady) Maroney. She received her early education in Bennington, and graduated from St. Joseph's Business College in Bennington in the Class of 1934, which is currently Southern Vermont College. On October 8, 1938, she married Edward. Reverend Henry performed the ceremony at St. Francis de Sales Church. They were happily married for forty-one years. Mr. Forrest died June 23, 1979. In earlier years, Mrs. Forrest was employed in the office of George O. Hanford, Attorney and later at F. W. Woolworth. At the time of her retirement, she was employed at the Benn Pastry and Coffee Shop. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. Mrs. Forrest was a strong Christian, devoted Catholic, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Saint Frances de Sales Parish for over ninety-three years. She had many friends over the years and greatly enjoyed having lunch with them at Geannelis' Restaurant. Her favorite activities included camping, outdoor barbeques, and cooking and baking for her family. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet, sew and do ceramics. In later years, Mrs. Forrest enjoyed taking long rides and almost daily outings to the Peppermill Restaurant with her daughter Judy and son-in-law Alan, on their frequent visits to Bennington. Until the age of eighty-seven, she was a frequent flyer to Virginia to visit with her daughter's family, including Mrs. Forrest's two grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She looked forward to those trips and loved to fly. Survivors include her children; Judy Fairbanks and her husband Alan of Abingdon, Va., and her son Gary Forrest and his wife Judy of Bennington. She leaves nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, fifteen step-great grandchildren, and her sisters, Mary Green and Katherine Maroney both of Bennington as well as nieces, nephews and her daughter-in-law, Charlotte Forrest of North Hoosick, N.Y. Mrs. Forrest is predeceased by; one son Richard S. Forrest, four brothers; Edwin R. Maroney, Ronald J. Maroney, Norbert J. Maroney, and Thomas N. Maroney and two sisters, Shirley P. Harris and Allena Legacy. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Prayer services will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Death and Burial at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, May 22, from 6 until 8 p.m. A Memorial service and mass will be held at a later date for family and friends in Virginia at Christ the King Catholic Church in Abington, Va.
