Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER CENTER -- Beatrice L. Maher, 95, of Rutland and a longtime resident of Manchester Center, died Monday morning, June 12, 2006, at the Genesis Elder Care Mountain View Center following a brief illness.

She was born on April 22, 1911, in Manchester Center, the daughter of Carl Albert and Mary Louise (Lane) Mattison.

Mrs. Maher attended local schools and graduated from Burr and Burton Seminary in 1930, and she married Theodore Maher on July 5, 1930.

Mrs. Maher was a longtime resident of Manchester Center, where she operated a home laundry service for more than 50 years. She relocated to Rutland in 2002.

She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary No. 38 in Manchester until it closed, when she joined the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary No. 31 in Rutland.

Mrs. Maher enjoyed playing bridge and bowling.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Frances Tobin, and her husband, Francis, of Rutland Town; a stepdaughter, Beatrice Louise Hartley of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters-in-law, Lois Mattison and Cora Mattison, both of Manchester; four stepgrandchildren, Pam Kowalski of Las Vegas, David Hartley of Atlanta, Ga., and Peter Tobin and Bruce Tobin, both of Rutland; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and a niece and four nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1978. A stepgranddaughter, Patricia A. Terry, a sister, Frances H. Stacy, and three brothers, A. Raymond Mattison, Donald L. Mattison and Robert W. Mattison, also predeceased her.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aldous Funeral Home, 44 North Main St., Rutland.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester. The Rev. Thomas V. Mattison, assistant pastor at Christ the King Church in Rutland and cousin, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester.
