1929 - 2015 SHAFTSBURY Beatrice A. Olin, 85, a longtime resident of Town Line Road, passed away Tuesday, Mar. 10, 2015 surrounded by her family at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington following a long illness. Born in Bennington on Sept. 21, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Ralph J. and Alma (LaPointe) Leonard, Sr. She received her education in Bennington and was a 1949 graduate of Bennington High School. In earlier years Bea was employed at the Benn Pastry Shop in Bennington and later at Union Carbide Corporation for many years until the time of her retirement in 1989. Bea was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington. Her home and family were her main interest. Survivors include three daughters, Donna Browe (Tom) of Shaftsbury, Darlene McIntyre (Warren) of East Dorset and Denise Olin of Nevada City, CA; two sons, Noel D. Olin (Lesley) of Newport and Rick A. Olin (Darcy) of North Bennington; 14 grandchildren, Lisa, Peter, Erin, Jocelyn, Adam, Whitney, Ethan, Bosque, Elijah, Tammy, Warren III, Brian, Jacob and Steven and many great-grandchildren; five sisters, Marion Noyes, Beulah Racicot and Velta Thayer all of Bennington, Eva O'Dell Pownal and Shirley Carroll of Petersburgh, NY; two brothers, Ralph J. Leonard of North Pownal and Nelson "Toby" Leonard of Bennington; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Bea was predeceased by two grandchildren, Courtney and Tom Jr. and sisters, Louise Peacock and Barbara C. Baker. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, Mar. 13, 2015 at 12:15 p.m. with a prayer and from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 1p.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the spring at the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Pownal. Should friends desire contributions in memory of Beatrice Olin may be made to either BAYADA Hospice or St. John the Baptist Food Shelf through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
