Beatrice Pike Hickey

Obituary Condolences

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Beatrice Pike Hickey, 87, died Friday, May 23, 2003 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt., after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the widow of Fredrick H. Pike, who died in 1986, and David J. Hickey, who died in 1995.

Born Thursday, July 8, 1915, in Hadley, she was the daughter of Charles and Charlotte (Griffrath) White. After graduating from high school, Beatrice attended Mildred Elley Secretarial School. She worked as a secretary at the school in Hadley, at Lent’s Propane and with her husband, at Pike’s Garage, Corinth.

In 1987, after marrying David Hickey, she moved from Corinth to North Hampton where she lived until moving to Cambridge in 1996. Beatrice lived for four years at Cambridge Woods and moved to the Cambridge Guest House last February.

She was the oldest member of the Jacob’s Well Fellowship; a member of the Cambridge Senior Citizens and the South Cambridge Grange.

Beatrice was an avid reader. She liked to play cards, take rides and have picnics. Going out to dinner was a favorite pasttime. Watching and spending time with her great-grandchildren gave her much joy.

A brother, Elroy C. White, died before her. She is survived by two children, the Rev. Harry L. Pike and wife Linda, of Salem, and Patricia A. Patton and husband, Theodore, of Johnsburg; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday, May 25, 2003 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge.

The Rev. Timothy Bohley will conduct the funeral service on Monday, May 26 at 10 a.m. at Jacob’s Well Fellowship, 81 Legrys Road, Cambridge.

Burial will be private at Corinth Rural Cemetery.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Jacob’s Well Fellowship, 81 Legrys Road, Cambridge, NY 12816.
