NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Beltren “Bill” Lampron, 79, of Wells Avenue, North Adams, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at the North Adams Regional Hospital, shortly after being admitted earlier in the day.

He was born in Barre, Vt. July 31, 1924, son of the late Antonio and Mathilda (Rheaume) Lampron. He attended schools in Barre. He resided in Manchester, Vt. and later Bennington, Vt., before entering the U.S. Army in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European, African, Middle Eastern and Asiatic Pacific theaters of operation before being discharged in 1946.

He moved to North Adams in 1946. He was a well-known area home builder. He founded E. Lampron & Sons general contracting business in 1952. He built well over 100 homes in the northern Berkshire and southern Vermont area as well as doing many home renovations. He retired from the company in 1988 but continued to assist his son Thomas in the operation of the business. He founded, along with his late son David A. Lampron, the Kitchen Center, a division of E. Lampron & Sons, which operated from 1985 to 1996.

He was a longtime active communicant of Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church, North Adams, where he served on the bingo and building and maintenance committees, and also served as an usher. He was a longtime member of the former North Adams Chamber of Commerce, life member of the Dr. George L. Curran Post 996, Veterans of Foreign Wars, North Adams. He enjoyed boating, golf, water and snow skiing, and after retiring did much woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite R. (Choquette) Lampron, whom he married Aug. 1, 1945; two sons, Daniel G. Lampron and his wife Kathi of North Adams and Thomas A. Lampron and his wife Beth of Williamstown; a daughter, Barbara A. Lampron of North Adams; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Lampron of North Adams; a brother, Raymond Lampron of Bennington, Vt.; three sisters, Antoinette Rousseau of Pelham, N.H., Claudia Barcus of Memphis, Tenn., and Claire Douglas of Williamstown; and seven grandchildren, Dawn Catelotti, Kevin Lampron, Joshua Benoit, Jonas Benoit, Josiah Benoit, Jesse Benoit, Heidi Benoit, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His son David A. Lampron died July 11, 1995, three brothers Joseph Lampron, Lucien Lampron, Alyre Lampron and two sisters Lorretta Caron and Rose Gervais are also deceased.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, July 2 from the Auge-San Soucie-Simmons Funeral Home, North Adams. A liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to either the David A. Lampron Scholarship fund or United Cerebral Palsy Association of Berkshire County, through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247.
