Benjamin J. Karol

1927-2013 Benjamin J. Karol 85, passed away on Sunday September 1, at his residence on Main Street. He resided there with the love of his life, Agnesmary (Treanor) Karol whom he married in 1952. Ben was born on November 6, 1927, in Donora, Pennsylvania, son of the late Stanley and Constance Karol. He received a degree in Business from Duquesne University in 1949 and briefly served in the United States Army Intelligence Service. Ben and Agnesmary lived in Johnstown, PA, where he worked in sales for Colgate. In 1961 he and his wife moved to Geneva, NY and owned various Real Estate Broker while raising five children. Upon retirement in 2010 they relocated to Hoosick Falls, NY. Ben was passionate about making a difference in the lives of others and was deeply committed to community service and his faith. He was active in the Immaculate Conception Parish and our Lady of Peace Parish, as well as supporting St. Mary's Academy. He also volunteered at the Hoosick Area Church Food Pantry, the House of Concern in Geneva, NY and with the Salvation Army. He served on the DeSales Board of Trustees and Save Our School project, and was as active member of Rotary for many years. He will be remembered as a tall, handsome, excellent dancer, who loved nothing more than time with his family. Ben is survived by his loving wife and five children; Bernard (Nancy) Karol of Bronxville, NY, Catherine (Bruce) Sendek of Huntington Woods, Michigan, Eileen (Christopher) Wood of Hoosick Falls, NY,Timothy (Linda) and Thomas (Kathryn) Karol all of Virginia. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday September 5, at 10:00 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls on Wednesday from 5:00 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to St. Mary's Academy through the funeral home.
