BENNINGTON -- Bernadette B. “Bernie” Harrington, 75, widow of James C. Harrington, a resident of School Street, Bennington, died Sunday, May 13, 2007, while vacationing in York, Maine.

Born in Bennington July 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ephrem and Marguerite (Roy) Berard. She received her early education in the Bennington schools and was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy in Rutland.

Bernie and Jim Harrington were married at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington on Dec. 31, 1950. Jim died Oct. 16, 1984.

In earlier years Bernie was employed in various retail businesses in Bennington. In the early 70’s they purchased One Hour Martinizing Cleaners on BenMont Avenue in Bennington. The business is now owned by their son and daughter-in-law.

Bernie was a member of American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary, VFW Post 1332 Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles 1861 Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose. Her home and family were her main interest. She especially enjoyed reading, puzzles, shopping and dining out.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” Wilson and her husband Mark of Shaftsbury; a son and daughter-in-law, James W. Harrington and his wife Josie of Bennington; three grandchildren, Lisa Redding and her husband John of Bennington; Pamela Bressett and her husband Alan of Langdon, N.H., and Sarah Wilson of Bennington; a great-grandson, Kasey Bressett; a brother and sister-in-law, William Berard and his wife Virginia of Bennington; an aunt, Ceil Roy of North Bennington; an uncle, Francis “Pete” Roy and his wife Dianne of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, May 18, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 9 until 10:30 a.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Should friends desire, contributions in Bernadette B. Harrington’s memory may be made to Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT. 05201.

All members of American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 13, are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday at 10 a.m. to conduct services in memory of Mrs. Harrington.
