Bernard D. Rougeau Sr.

1944-2014 POWNAL Bernard D. Rougeau Sr., 69, a resident of Pownal died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 surrounded by his family. The son of Philemon and Rita Sauve Rougeau he was born in Adams, Mass. on October 3, 1944. After graduating from St. Joseph's Catholic High School in North Adams he joined the Navy where he served aboard ship overseas during the Vietnam War. Bernie had worked at Sprague Electric in North Adams, General Electric in Troy, N.Y. and for 20 years as a mechanic at Tri Mont Texaco in Bennington. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Pownal. He had several interests including hunting, fishing, working on cars, cooking and vegetable gardening. He leaves his wife, Mary Johnson Rougeau who he married August 3, 1968 in Pownal; sons, Matthew McConnell and Bernard Rougeau Jr., both of Bennington, daughters Becky Morin of North Bennington and Tammy Martin of Fort Ann, N.Y.; a special granddaughter, Kayleigh who he and Mary raised; sister, Lillian Joyner of Lenox, Mass.; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Rougeau and sister, Frances George. At Bernie's request there will be no service.
