EAST DORSET -- Bert DeCamp, 92, a longtime resident of East Dorset, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center following a long illness. He was born in Springfield June 19,1912, the son of Gerald and Ella (Breed) DeCamp. He attended schools in Claremont, N.H.

Bert married Lois “Capen” DeCamp and together raised a loving family. In his earlier years, Bert worked at the Ripley Brass foundry in Windsor. Most of his life he worked as a logger. Bert loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed working on machines and autos, reading and crossword puzzles. He liked to take long drives in the country and always looked forward to the Lumberjack Roundups. Most of all, Bert loved the time he spent with his family. He loved to make things in his woodshop for his grandchildren. He will be remembered as kind and helpful toward others.

In addition to his wife, Bert is survived by his four daughters, Mary Weeks of Manchester, Dorothy Beers of Manchester, Alberta Towsley of East Dorset and Cindy Marino of Cavendish; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons Gary and Larry.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m. in the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. There are to be no calling hours.
