HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Bertha C. Riley, 93, died Monday Jan. 12, 2004 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center where she had lived since December of 2002. She formerly lived on Rogers Avenue and was the wife of the late Joseph Riley, who died on March 8, 2002.

Bertha was born Nov. 2, 1910 in Cohoes, daughter of the late Matthew and Karolina (Saj) Ciemiega. She attended Cohoes High School and worked at the Watervliet Arsenal as a tool crib during World War II. She then became a homemaker. Bertha enjoyed gardening and writing letters especially to her family in Poland. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include three nieces Patricia Walthers, of Troy, Kathleen Tommasi of Ballston Spa, and Carol Smith of New Jersey; a special friend Bernard Graney of Hoosick Falls. Bertha is predeceased by a nephew Peter Hoffman, three sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 16 at 10:30 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. A mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
