SHAFTSBURY -- Mrs. Bertha S. Snow, 90, widow of Merton R. Snow, a resident of East Road, Shaftsbury died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Born in Bennington Dec. 23, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Anna (Welch) Cross. She received her education in the Bennington schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Snow were married in Bennington June 3, 1932. Mr. Snow died Oct. 29, 1998.

In earlier years, Mrs. Snow had been employed at the former Benmont Paper Company. She later worked in the food service program at Bennington Catholic High School for many years.

Mrs. Snow was a long-time communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic church in North Bennington. For more than 62 years she was a very active member of Taconic Grange No. 491 in Shaftsbury and was also a member of the White Chapel Home Dem Group. She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, cooking and volunteering through out the community.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Merton J. and Ida Snow of Shaftsbury, a son, Howard C. Snow of Shaftsbury, a daughter and son-in-law, Roberta M. and Klaus Jones of Petersburgh, N.Y. and a son and daughter-in-law, Steven A. and Sandra Snow of Bonita, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Snow, Holly Bahan, Mary Babcock, Dr. Mark Humphrey, Matthew Humphrey, Luke Humphrey, Lucinda Scharf, Nicholas Humphrey, Jennifer Prouty and Danny Calderon; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, F. Marjorie Bartlett of Jacksonville; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Mrs. Snow was predeceased by an infant son, Robert Snow, and by two sisters and a brother, Anna Elwell, Joseph Cross and Kathleen Cornell.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at 9:15 a.m. with a prayer and from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 10 a.m. where the liturgy of Christian death and burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The wake service will be offered Friday afternoon.

Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery, North Bennington.

Should friends desire, contributions in memory of Mrs. Bertha Snow may be made to the New England Kurn Hattin Homes, P.O. Box 127, Westminister, VT 05158 or to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.

All members of Taconic Grange are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. to conduct services in memory of Mrs. Snow.
