Bertram E. Stritch

1922-2010 HOOSICK FALLS, NY Bertram Edward Stritch, 87, of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., passed peacefully on May 23, 2010, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, N.Y.

Born in Sanford, Maine, on Nov. 22, 1922, son of the late Bertram E. Stritch Sr. and the late Gertrude Allen Stritch, he served his country in the Army from October 1942, and was honorably discharged in July 1943.

Bertram was employed by the US Geological Survey in the state of Maine, prior to starting his teaching career. He graduated from Colby College in 1949, and later received his Master of Education from the University of Massachusetts in 1962.

He taught school for 30 years at Hoosick Falls Central School in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., until his retirement in 1984. He truly loved his work and his passion for teaching continued long after his retirement.

Bertram leaves his wife, Patricia (Landerkin) Stritch of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; a son, Lawrence Stritch and his wife, Penelope, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a daughter, Nancy Van Bramer and her husband, George, of Troy, N.Y.; a son, James Stritch and his wife, Gabriele, of Berlin, Conn.; ten grandchildren; four sisters, Gertrude Franklin of Stanford, Calif., Arlene Clough Rochester, N.H., Eleanor Tracy of Framingham, Mass., Anne Ward of Northwood, N.H.; a brother, C. Donald Stritch of Auburn, N.H.

He is predeceased by three brothers, Frederick, Lawrence and Richard Stritch, and a sister, Marjorie Trotter.

Bert was a caring, understanding, and loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to hear the news of family and was a guiding influence on them. He loved good conversation and enjoyed sharing his life experiences with anyone. He was an almanac of information. Bert was a good friend and reached out to many over the years. He cherished his relationships with long time friends and co-workers. He will be missed by all that knew him.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Relatives and friends may call at the MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. on Wednesday, May 26 from 4-6 p.m. Burial will be Thursday, May 27, at 10:30 a.m. in the Gerald B.H. Solomon/ Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y. Family and friends will meet at the entrance of the cemetery on Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosick Falls Health Center through the funeral home.
