Betty Morgan Agone 1919-2011 SHAFTSBURY, VT Mrs. Betty Morgan Agone, 91, a resident of West Mountain Road in Shaftsbury, Vt., died Thursday June 2, 2011 at her residence following a long illness. She was born in Floral Park, Long Island New York October 9, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Kingdon and Elizabeth (Moore) Morgan. Betty was a 1941 graduate of the Crane School of Music of the University of New York at Potsdam. One of the highlights of her college career was performing with the Crane School of Music Chorus at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Her teaching career began in 1941 with the General Martin Central School in Glenfield. She left her teaching position in 1943 to move to Daytona Beach, Florida where her husband served as an instructor in the U.S. Army Reconditioning Program. After World War II she resumed her teaching career for several years at the Vestal Central School. She then left her teaching career to become a full time homemaker for her husband and her four children. When Betty and her husband retired and moved to Shaftsbury, Vt., in 1981 she became interested in horse back riding and began taking riding lessons in dressage at the Schurink Riding Stables in Shaftsbury. She also enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and keeping in touch with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Robert Agone of 68 years whom she married on December 25, 1941; Her son David and his wife Sandra of Stamford, Vt., her son Michael of Alton, Illinois, her daughter Kathleen Agone Nastasi and her husband Richard of Brewerton, N.Y., and her son Thomas and his friend Abby of Silverthorne, Colorado. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday June 6, 2011 at noon Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. The burial will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery in Shaftsbury, VT.
