AUGUSTA, W. Va. -- Betty Dewey, 69, of Augusta, W.Va., formerly of Bethel, Vt. and Bennington, Vt. died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003 in Augusta.

She was born in Buskirk, N.Y., on Sept. 29, 1934, the daughter of Charles and Nellie (Harrington) Sanders. She married Harold W, Dewey Sr.

She worked for Waterbury Plastics in Bethel, Vt. in the late 1950s and was the first director of Randolph Area Community Action, serving 22 towns. She helped many families obtain mortgages for homes. She later sold Avon products.

She enjoyed riding motorcycles for a short time and starting collections that included salt and pepper shakers.

Betty was a Dale Earnhart fan.

She leaves her husband of Augusta, W.Va.; two daughters, Deborah Beebe of Wingdale, N.Y., and Sandra Carlson of Kansas City, Mo.; three sons, Wayne Morse, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Shawn Morse of Bethel, Vt., and Harold K. Dewey Jr. of Augusta; a sister Mary Pratt, of Bennington, Vt.; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by three brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 26, at 8 p.m. at the McKee Funeral Home in Augusta, W.Va.

Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery in Bethel, Vt.

Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
