MANCHESTER -- A Mass of the Resurrection for Betty Gossweiler Hand was held Friday morning, Oct. 21, 2005, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Manchester.

The Rev John Whalen celebrated the mass. Music was under the direction of organist and soloist Michael Gallagher who led the congregation in the singing of the hymn’s “Be Not Afraid,” “On Eagles’ Wings” and “Amazing Grace.” The communion hymn “Ave Maria” was sung solo by Michael Gallagher.
The scripture readings were read by Julie and Thomas Hand. The Gospel was read by the Rev. Whalen. Offertory gifts were presented at the altar by Jennifer and Jamie Hand. Post communion words of comfort were given by Mrs. Hand’s sons James and John Hand. Serving as pallbearers were James, John, Julie, Jennifer, Thomas and Jamie Hand. The altar assistant was Ken Linihan who also offered the intercessions. Serving as acolytes were Samantha and Lauren Tarde. A time of fellowship and refreshments following the Mass was held at the home of John and Kimet Hand. A vigil service was conducted by the Rev. Whalen on Thursday evening at Brewster Funeral Service.

Betty Gossweiler Hand, a resident of Manchester and Florida, died Oct. 16, 2005, at the Equinox Terrace in Manchester. Arrangements were under the care of Brewster Funeral Service, 34 Park Place, Manchester.
