CENTER WHITE CREEK, N.Y. -- Betty Jane Austin, 75, of Lincoln Hill Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a very brief illness. She was the widow of Walter C. Austin Sr. who died in 1986.

Born Nov. 22, 1929, in Rutland, Vt., she was the daughter of Elmer W. Peer and Violet I. Labarge Peer Forest. For the first 13 years of her life, Betty Jane was raised by her foster father, Allie Bull, in North Ferrisburg, Vt. She then went to live with her birth family in Watervliet.

She received her education in North Ferrisburg, Bennington, Vt., and Troy.

Betty June worked in the admitting office at Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge from 1964 until 1977. She then worked in the offices of Oak Industries in Hoosick Falls until she retired in 1994.

She loved flowers and had beautiful gardens. She also enjoyed doing crafts. One of her dolls won a blue ribbon at the 2005 Washington County Fair.

A grandson, Ryan G. Austin; a brother, Bernard Peer; a sister, Virginia Toomey; a half-brother, Richard Forest; and a half-sister, Frances Forest, died before her.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Gregory S. and Brenda R. Austin of Center White Creek; three granddaughters, Ashley P., Megan El and Victoria L. Austin; a stepson, Walter C. Austin, Jr. of Norwich, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Lynn Minor of Loveland, Colo.; two step-granddaughters, Sharon Jarter and Linda Lia; three step-great-grandchildren, Erica and Andrew Jarter and Jonathan Daly; a sister, Evelyn Callahan of Keene, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Woodlands Cemetery, Cambridge. Pastor Clyde Fobes of Center White Creek Church will officiate.
