Betty E. Kees

1916 - 2015 SHAFTSBURY Betty E. Kees, 98, widow of David U. Kees, a resident of Route 7A, died Wednesday, April 1, at Bennington Health and Rehab surrounded by her family. Born in Elizabeth, N.J. on Oct. 21, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Elizabeth (Schweitzer) Endres. Betty received her education in Elizabeth and was a 1934 graduate of Batttin High School there. From 1934 thru 1954 she was employed at Prudential Insurance Company in Newark, N.J. Betty and David were married in Maplewood, N.J. on Sept. 3, 1949. While living in New Jersey Betty was active with her husband in teaching the Dale Carnegie Leadership courses in the area. They moved to Shaftsbury in 1965 and established Kees Motor Court on Route 7 which they operated for many years until retiring in 1988. Mr. Kees died April 19, 1994. Betty loved nature and all types of wildlife. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and feeding the various animals that she came in contact with. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Gayle Kees of Shaftsbury; two grand-daughters, Megan Kees and her husband, David, of Taunton, Mass., and Melissa Kees and her wife, Nicole Hoag, of Latham, N.Y.; two great-grand-children, Sophia and Owen Kees; a nephew and two nieces including a very special niece, Patti Pfeiffer. Betty was predeceased by a step-daughter, Ann Farrington; and by a sister and brother, Ann Schurman and Nicholas Endres. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR SON FUNERAL HOME Wednesday, April 8, at 9:15 a.m. with a prayer and from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 10 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 - 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in St. John's Cemetery, North Bennington. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Betty's memory may be made to either Bennington Project Independence or the St. John the Baptist Food Shelf through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
