BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Betty Lou Holts, 69, a resident of Hillside Street North Bennington, died Friday, March 5, 2004 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center surrounded by her family and loved ones.

She was born in Madison, Maine Dec. 26, 1934 at the family home. She was the daughter of the late Albert J. and Eva F. (Wickson) Godin. She received her education in Maine where she also attended college. She married the love of her life Stanley E. Holts Nov. 10, 1956 in Skowhegan, Maine. Mr. Holts died Feb. 6, 1986.

Especially dear to Betty’s heart was her very special daughter Theresa Anne Holts who took care of her through all the good times in life. They shared a home, many wonderful vacations, and any sorrow that either encountered. With her granddaughter, whom she was very proud of, Armine Theresa Lee Holts-Martin she shared many wonderful moments, lots of laughs and Dunkin Donuts. Her nephew and niece Steve and Sheila lived with her and thought the world of her. Betty’s home was always open to the many wonderful people she met in her life, especially all the children she took time to listen to, care for and just be their Mum.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Joe and Elaine Holts of South Carolina, Mary and Henry Wright of New York, Stanley and Liz Holts of Georgia, Theresa Anne Holts of Vermont, Amanda and Allen Martin of Vermont; her grandchildren Joey Holts of Massachusetts, Henry, Michael and Antoinett Wright of New York, Vivian Wright of Tennessee, Rebbecca Holts of Connecticut, Jessica Holts of Maine and Jacob Holts of Georgia; one great-grandchild, Brock Xavier of Tennessee; a brother, Joseph Godin of Skowhegan, Maine; two very close nieces who were more like sisters and were raised in the same home as Betty, Hester Marcia and Eva Bussell both of Maine; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Albert Godin, Arthur “Boob” Godin, Roy Godin, Hubert “Nook” Godin and a sister Madeline Libby.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at 2:15 p.m. with a prayer, and then from Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 3 p.m., where the liturgy of Christian death and burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Saint John’s Cemetery North Bennington.

A reception to celebrate the life of Betty “Mum” Holts will be held at the American Legion following the mass.
