1927 - 2014 PETERSBURGH, N.Y. Betty Lou "Betty Boop" Steller, 87, widow of Robert Steller, and a resident of Rabbit College Road, died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at the Vermont Veterans Home, surrounded by her family. Born in Mt. Vernon, Ind., Jan. 9, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Fred E. and Hazel Burlison McLain. Betty received her education in the Mt. Vernon schools. Betty and Bob were married in Whitestone, Queens, N.Y., on Sep. 19, 1947. Bob died Aug. 10, 2009. Betty was a homemaker all of her adult life and worked at the soda fountain at the Woolworths store in Bennington, for several years. She enjoyed knitting, ceramics and embroidery. Betty's family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff and administration at the Vermont Veterans Home, for the outstanding care, love, and compassion that was shown to both Betty and Bob during their illnesses. You have all become part of our extended family over the years and we are eternally grateful to you. Survivors include her faithful pal "Zoey"; a daughter, Nancy L. VanDerKar and her husband, Jack, of Hoosick Falls; sons, Stephen T. Steller and his wife, Simone, of North Petersburgh, Howard J. Steller and his wife, Jessica, of North Hoosick and Fred E. Steller and his wife, Vicki, of North Petersburgh; nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was predeceased by an infant daughter, Donna D. Steller; a son, Robert H. Steller; a grandson, Howard Steller, III, and two sisters. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services celebrating the life of Betty Steller, will be held from Four Chaplains All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at 3 p.m., with Chaplain Kenneth Coonradt officiating. Friends may call at the chapel on Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at the family lot in Flushing Cemetery, Queens, N.Y., on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions in Betty Steller's name may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home, to be used for the Namaste program, through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
