Bill Vien

1933 - 2014 POWNAL Bill Vien, 80, a resident of Vien Road, died unexpectedly on Friday, July 11, 2014 at his residence. Born in Bennington on Aug. 4, 1933, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Goodwin) Vien. He received his education in Pownal and Bennington Schools. Bill was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953. In earlier years he owned and operated a construction business in the area. Bill enjoyed horses and trained thoroughbreds for many years. He was a life member of both the VFW Post 1332 and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 90 in Pownal. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bill married the former Barbara Cummings on July 2, 1955, in Bennington. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Vien of Pownal; three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Gene Daugherty, Jean and James Cottrell and Bonnie and Robert Kalinowski all of Pownal; eight grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Loyzelle of Canandaigua, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Harry Cummings of Pownal, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was predeceased by two sisters and a brother, Jane Beauregard, Ruth Joly and George Vien. FUNERAL NOTICE: At Bill's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Arrangements are under the direction of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201
