HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Blanche Barber, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at her residence on Scott Street. She was the wife of the late Austin Barber, who died in 1979.

Blanche was born April 25, 1925, in Hoosick Falls, daughter of Stanley and Anna (Pytko) Stuka. She was educated at schools in Hoosick Falls and worked at the Allied Signal for many years until retiring. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post No. 8417, where she was a past president, and the St. Stanislaw Society Auxiliary where she was also a past president. Blanche was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, where she also served as a eucharist minister.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Blanchfield of Cambridge and a nephew, Michael Baczek of Connecticut. She is predeceased by two sisters, Veronica Behan and Constance Bozek and a brother, Frank Stuka.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to H.A.C.A. of the Town of Hoosick or the charity of your choice.
