BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Blanche Harwood, 88, widow of David E. Harwood, a former resident of Walloomsac Apartments on School Street, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, at Crescent Manor Care Centers.

Born in Shaftsbury on June 4, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle (Church) Vadakin. She received her early education in Shaftsbury and was a graduate of the former North Bennington High School, class of 1936.

Mr. and Mrs. Harwood were married April 23, 1937, in Shaftsbury by the late Rev. George Burke, pastor of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church. Mr. Harwood died July 10, 1982.

Mrs. Harwood was a member of the North Bennington High School Alumni Association and also served as president of the Walloomsac Apartment Tenants Association for many years.

Her hobbies and interests included knitting and crocheting. Her home and family were her main interest.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Guerard of North Bennington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Florence and Ronald Loomis of North Bennington and Mary and Harold Gardner of Wilmington, Mass.; a son and daughter-in-law, Burton D. and Darlene Harwood of Bennington; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bessie Burgess of Tinmouth; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Mrs. Harwood was predeceased by a son-in-law, Arthur P. Guerard, and by seven brothers.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Morneault, chaplain of VNA & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care, officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will take place in the family lot in South Shaftsbury Cemetery.
